Physical therapy (PT) is a health care professional concerned with the remediation of impairments and disabilities and the promotion of mobility, functional ability and quality of life. PT employs various physical modalities such as sound, light, electricity, heat, cold, magnet, water and exercise.

The PT department in Shanghai Sunshine Rehabilitation Center covers an area of over 2,000 square meters, including exercise room, modality therapy and hydrotherapy area. In addition, this department is equipped with sufficient advanced facilities, such as gait lab, isokinetic training instrument, S-E-T system and robotic ambulator, as well as balance test and training apparatus. The PT department is composed of 32 professionally trained physiotherapists with extensive clinical experience. There are three sub-groups in PT department specialized in musculoskeletal disorder, neurological disorder and cardiopulmonary disease, respectively. The PT department aims to provide quality and individualized treatment to clients, including stroke, traumatic brain injury, spinal cord injury, burn injury, orthopedic and cardiopulmonary diseases, etc.

Addition to the clinical service, the work of PT department also includes clinical research and supervision of student’s clinical placement. The PT department has established long-term clinical placement cooperation with many local and international colleges and universities, such as the Xuzhou Medical College, Nanjing Medical University, The Curtin University and The Hong Kong Polytechnic University.
